Train Tickets: Major change in IRCTC booking rules from October 1 — you’ll receive your ticket only after completing this step

IRCTC Ticket Booking: New Aadhaar Rule from October 1
From October 1, 2025, Indian Railways is introducing a big change in the process of booking general tickets online through IRCTC. Under the new rule, passengers must link their Aadhaar number with their IRCTC account to enjoy priority booking.
As per the notification, those who have not linked their Aadhaar will not be able to book tickets during the first 15 minutes after bookings open. Instead, preference will be given to Aadhaar-verified users, who will get a 15-minute early window to reserve their seats. This move is aimed at making ticket distribution more transparent and ensuring that tickets reach genuine travellers.
Steps to Link Aadhaar with IRCTC Account
- Login – Visit the official IRCTC website or open the mobile app, and sign in with your username and password.
- Go to My Account – In the top-right menu, select “Link Your Aadhaar” or “Aadhaar KYC.”
- Enter Aadhaar Number – Provide your 12-digit Aadhaar and click “Send OTP.”
- Verify OTP – Enter the OTP received on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
- Confirmation – Once verified, a success message will appear confirming the linking.
Why the New Rule?
Railways officials say this step will help curb black marketing and duplicate bookings. By prioritizing Aadhaar-verified users, the chances of ordinary passengers getting confirmed tickets will improve.
Where This Rule Applies
- The Aadhaar requirement is being enforced only for online general ticket booking through IRCTC.
- For Tatkal tickets, Aadhaar linking is already mandatory.
- Counter bookings at railway stations will continue without any change.
