‘If you have the guts…’: AAP challenges Suryakumar Yadav over India-Pakistan handshake controversy
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj on Monday sharply criticized India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav for dedicating the team’s Asia Cup victory over Pakistan to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.
Addressing a press conference, Bharadwaj mocked Yadav’s statement, saying, “He said he dedicated this win to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack so casually. You are very considerate, aren’t you?”
The AAP leader then issued a direct challenge to the Indian captain: “If you, the BCCI, and even the ICC truly have the courage, then here’s our demand. Whatever profits you’ve made from broadcasting rights, advertisers, and the overall business of this tournament—hand it over to the 26 widows of the martyrs. Only then will we believe that your dedication was genuine.”
Bharadwaj went on to allege that neither Yadav nor cricketing authorities had the will to follow through: “They don’t have the guts, nor the standing to actually do it. It’s easier to make hollow statements like ‘we dedicate this to them’ or ‘we dedicate that to them.’ It’s extremely shameful.”
As of now, neither Suryakumar Yadav, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), nor the International Cricket Council (ICC) have responded to Bharadwaj’s remarks.
