Heavily armed officers intercept black Mercedes, gunfire erupts after traffic stop

Motorists were left shocked when a heavily armed police team stopped two vehicles on a busy Sydney road and opened fire before taking the occupants into custody.
The operation, carried out by tactical officers, took place on River Road in Revesby, in Sydney’s southern suburbs, shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday. A Mercedes sedan and a Mitsubishi SUV, positioned a few hundred metres apart, were both targeted during the arrests, witnessed by commuters as peak-hour traffic began to build.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing gunshots, and footage captured by bystanders shows both vehicles riddled with bullet holes and extensively damaged.
The operation is understood to have been carefully planned in advance, with the occupants reportedly having links to organised crime.
Videos from the scene show officers in helmets and ballistic vests banging on the Mercedes while one officer appeared to aim a firearm directly at an occupant. Police were also seen redirecting traffic away from the intersection as officers removed two men from the car.
At the same time, officers carried out a similar arrest on the Mitsubishi Outlander further down the road, dragging the occupant from the vehicle. He was later seen sitting handcuffed beside the SUV, which had also sustained bullet damage.
NSW Police confirmed that an operation was conducted in Revesby and nearby Condell Park, but declined to provide further details about its purpose. A spokesperson reassured the public: “There is no threat to the public. More information will be released when operationally appropriate.”
The incident caused major traffic disruptions, with multiple lanes on River Road closed during the operation. Roads were fully reopened by 8 p.m., easing delays for commuters.
