Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan sworn in as the 15th Vice President of India

Delhi, Sep 12: Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan was on Friday sworn in as the 15th Vice President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan.President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath at the formal ceremony attended by senior leaders of various political parties and dignitaries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the ceremony and congratulated the new Vice President.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh were also present on the occasion.
Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also attended the ceremony.Radhakrishnan was elected as Vice-President after he secured 452 first preference votes while the opposition candidate B. Sudarshan Reddy got 300 votes.The function was planned in advance, in which senior NDA and opposition leaders were invited.Before taking oath, Radhakrishnan was serving as the Governor of Maharashtra, from which post he resigned.
Political analysts attribute Radhakrishnan's electoral victory to his reputation as a non-controversial leader with affiliations to the RSS, which gave him acceptance in both the government and the opposition.e adhyaksh ke roop mein bhee kaary karata hai.
He promised to uphold the values of the Constitution and work for the development of the country after his victory.
The post of Vice President of India also serves as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.With the swearing-in, Radhakrishnan begins a tenure in which he hopes to bring stability, uphold the dignity of the office and act as a bridge across political divides.hope to serve as a bridge between the two.
